Our Concept

As far back as the early 1990's, many of our customers who were in larger single family homes expressed a desire for a smaller, more open floor plan home, yet still with a high degree of luxury and quality materials. We conducted focus groups to gain an understanding of exactly what features were important to this group in a new home. The "Maintenance-Free" aspect of home ownership was very high on the list. Many people expressed a strong opinion that they did not want to spend their time worrying with the outside maintenance of their home. Yet as oppose to moving into an apartment or condominium, they sill wanted to own a single-family house on their own lot.

We also traveled the country to tour and review communities, which were very successful in the patio home or villa home concept. From this research, the exciting floor plans and models of the Bel Arbor Builders' portfolio were developed. Our success story continues today, as we continue to build large, luxury homes and now, also specialize in smaller, luxury villa homes, from 1800 to 2700 square feet.

Matt Hill attended Elon College in North Carolina, and then went on to found his own real estate brokerage company. Over the past 15 years, Matt has helped develop many planned communities in the Central Virginia area, and is an active member in the Kiwanis and Rotary organizations, and the Kids First program. He manages the development of the company's sites, including approvals, construction, and ongoing community development.

Tim McDonald has over 25 years in the building industry. A graduate of Hampton Sydney College, Tim has managed the construction efforts for several large and mid-sized builders in the Central Virginia area, handling over 40 houses at any one time. He manages the company's day-to-day construction scheduling, and is often the point of person between our customers and the central office.

Dan Walters has been building luxury custom homes for over 25 years. Dan has built homes in many different communities throughout Central Virginia from the $200's to the $700's. His very high reputation among his customers often leads to a high level of repeat business. A graduate of Hampton Sydney College, he is active in local sports and church organizations. Dan oversees the ongoing operations of Bel Arbor Builders, and he guides our customers in the selection and customizing of their new homes.

Joe Hill has been in real estate development and construction for over 20 years. Joe is an honors graduate from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce, and also holds a Masters of Real Estate Development from the Center of Real Estate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Recently, the Mayor of Richmond appointed Joe to the city's prestigious Commission of Architectural Review. Joe manages the financial, architectural, and marketing aspects of Bel Arbor Builders, and he is also in charge of new community and new product development.
